Christopher Wolf passed after a 14 year battle with opioid misuse and dependency. Like so many others, his battle with opioid dependency began with a prescription. Christopher was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in middle school. This diagnosis led to countless surgeries and a lifelong struggle with pain management the foundation of which was opioids.
When Christopher passed, Cammie Wolf Rice, his mother, transmuted her pain into purpose. She’s dedicating her life to preventing other mothers from the soul crushing pain of losing a child.
In 2018, Cammie founded the Christopher Wolf Crusade (CWC Alliance) to end opioid misuse before it begins. After all of the time that Cammie spent in the hospital with Christopher, she recognized a fundamental need for prevention. There was not one professional on Christopher’s medical team to educate him and his family about the risks of his pain medication. As a result, Christopher struggled with opioid misuse and passed away from it.
When Christopher passed, Cammie Wolf Rice, his mother, knew that she had to get on the prevention side.
Cammie knew that no other parents should have to experience the loss of a child to overdose.
In 2018, Cammie founded the Christopher Wolf Crusade with a mission to end substance misuse before it begins. After all of the time that Cammie spent in the hospital with Christopher she recognized a huge need for intervention. No one educated Christopher or his family about the risks of his pain medication until it was too late.
Christopher Wolf Crusade was created to fill the education and prevention gap for patients and the public.
Our goal is to provide opioid education and resources as well as mental wellness skills training directly to hospital inpatients and outpatients to ensure they are well supported during recovery. This support is provided by CWC Alliance’s Life Care Specialist, a Care Coach who personally sees the patient through to recovery. In addition, CWC Alliance’s Be Well Program provides patients and their families with the resources necessary to ensure a substance-free future post-recovery.
In 2024, CWC Alliance worked to shift the narrative around opioid misuse by championing community wellness, expanding the Life Care Specialist program, and furthering advocacy efforts. The impact of our work grows every year, and we are grateful for a future of continued growth ahead of us.
